Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 18, 2026  ·  Tangerine Intelligence, Inc.

We believe you deserve to know exactly what happens with your data. This policy is written in plain language because we want you to actually read it. We collect behavioral data across our apps, anonymize it on your device, and use it to build intelligence products. Here is every detail of how that works.

1. Who We Are

Tangerine Intelligence, Inc. is a Delaware C-Corporation. We are a single company that builds and operates all Tangerine apps. When this policy says "we," "us," or "our," it means Tangerine Intelligence, Inc. and all of its apps collectively.

2. Our Apps and Cross-App Data

We operate 22+ consumer apps spanning several categories:

  • Vitals and health — energy tracking, sleep analysis, diet logging, voice-based wellness checks
  • Social — event matching, group coordination, campus activities
  • Utility — parking, navigation, everyday tools
  • Study — focus timers, study groups, academic planning
  • Wellness — habit tracking, mindfulness, fitness

All of our apps use a single sign-in through Google or Apple (powered by Firebase Authentication). We do not have our own username/password system. You sign in once and that identity works across every Tangerine app.

This is important: Data from all of our apps is combined into a unified behavioral profile linked to a single anonymized identifier. If you use three of our apps, the data from all three contributes to one profile. This cross-app combination is the core of our platform and how we generate the insights that power our products. We are telling you this upfront because we think you should know.

3. What Data We Collect

3.1 Account Information

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from your identity provider. We do not collect or store passwords. You may optionally provide a profile photo and date of birth.

3.2 Usage Data

We collect detailed information about how you interact with our apps. This includes taps, swipes, screen time per feature, which features you use, session duration, and navigation patterns. We collect this across every Tangerine app you use.

3.3 Health and Wellness Data

Certain apps collect health-related data to provide personalized insights. This may include:

  • Energy levels — self-reported or inferred from usage patterns
  • Sleep patterns — duration, quality metrics, consistency
  • Diet logging — food entries, meal timing, nutritional analysis from photos
  • Voice biomarkers — we analyze short voice samples to extract numerical feature vectors that indicate cognitive state (alertness, stress, fatigue). We do not store voice recordings. The audio is processed into numbers on your device and only the numbers are transmitted.
  • Movement and activity data from device sensors

Health data is only collected when you actively use features that require it.

3.4 Social Behavior Data

In our social apps, we collect data about event attendance, matching patterns (who you match with, how often, outcomes), and group dynamics (group sizes, activity levels, coordination patterns). We never collect or store message content. We only observe behavioral patterns around social interactions.

3.5 Location Data

Some apps request location access for core functionality. When collected, your GPS coordinates are coarsened to 2 decimal places (approximately 1.1 km accuracy) before leaving your device. We never store your precise location. We use coarsened location for features like nearby event discovery and aggregate movement pattern analysis.

3.6 Environmental Data

With your device's sensors, we may collect ambient environmental signals including noise levels, ambient light, and barometric pressure. These help us understand the context around your behavior (for example, whether you study better in quiet environments).

3.7 Survey Responses

Our apps occasionally present short surveys or preference questions. Your responses are collected and linked to your anonymized profile. These surveys help us improve your experience and contribute to our behavioral intelligence models.

3.8 Device Information

We collect device model, operating system version, app version, language preferences, screen size, and a randomized device identifier. We do not collect your IMEI or other permanent hardware identifiers.

4. How We Anonymize Your Data

Anonymization is not an afterthought for us. It happens on your device before your data ever leaves your phone. Here is exactly how:

  • Per-install cryptographic salt — Each app installation generates a unique random salt that is used to hash your identifiers. This salt never leaves your device.
  • SHA-256 one-way hashing — All identifiable information is run through SHA-256 hashing with your device's salt. This is a one-way function. We cannot reverse it.
  • PII stripping — We actively scan for and remove 30+ categories of personally identifiable information from data payloads before transmission, including names, emails, phone numbers, and addresses.
  • GPS coarsening — Coordinates are truncated to 2 decimal places (~1.1 km resolution) on device.
  • Timestamp rounding — All timestamps are rounded to the nearest 5-minute interval, making it impossible to pinpoint exact moments of activity.
  • Differential privacy noise — We add calibrated Laplacian noise to all numeric values, providing mathematical privacy guarantees against re-identification.

This process is irreversible. Once your data is anonymized, we cannot re-identify you even if we wanted to. The anonymized data that reaches our servers cannot be traced back to you as an individual.

5. How We Use Your Data

We want to be completely transparent about every way we use your data:

5.1 Improving Your App Experience

We use your data to power core features, personalize your experience, fix bugs, and build better products. This is the most straightforward use.

5.2 Training Internal Machine Learning Models

Your anonymized data helps train our internal ML models. These models perform correlation discovery (finding links between behaviors), behavioral prediction (anticipating what features you might need), cohort segmentation (grouping similar usage patterns), and voice biomarker analysis (improving the accuracy of wellness indicators from voice features).

5.3 Generating Behavioral Intelligence Products

This is our business model, and we are being direct about it: we generate aggregated, cohort-level behavioral intelligence products from anonymized cross-app data. These products reveal trends and patterns across groups of users, never individuals.

5.4 Licensing Intelligence to Enterprise Clients

We license de-identified, cohort-level intelligence to enterprise clients in industries including:

  • Consumer packaged goods (CPG) — understanding consumer behavior patterns
  • Pharma and wellness — population health trends and wellness patterns
  • Real estate — neighborhood activity and lifestyle patterns
  • Entertainment — content consumption and social behavior trends
  • Insurance and fintech — aggregate risk and behavioral trends

Every intelligence product we sell is cohort-level only, with a minimum of 30 users per cohort. No individual user's data is ever sold, shared with, or made accessible to any third party. Enterprise clients receive statistical summaries about groups, never data about you.

6. Third-Party Services

Our apps integrate with the following third-party services:

  • Google Firebase — Authentication (Google/Apple sign-in), real-time database, and cloud functions. Firebase Privacy Policy
  • Google BigQuery — Anonymized data storage and analysis. All data stored in BigQuery has already been anonymized on your device before transmission. BigQuery Privacy Documentation
  • Anthropic Claude API — AI-powered insights and report narratives. Data sent to Claude is processed in accordance with Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Your data is not used to train Anthropic's models.

We carefully vet all third-party providers and require them to maintain security and privacy standards consistent with our own.

7. Data Retention

We follow a tiered retention schedule:

  • Active data (90 days) — Recent data kept in hot storage to power real-time app features and personalization.
  • Aggregated data (3 years) — Anonymized, aggregated data retained for trend analysis and intelligence products.
  • Archived data (7 years) — Compressed, fully anonymized data retained for long-term behavioral research and model training.

If you delete your account, all personal data is purged within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data that has already been incorporated into cohort-level datasets cannot be removed because it is no longer linked to you in any way.

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights regardless of where you live:

  • Access — Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you.
  • Deletion — Request deletion of your account and all associated personal data. We will complete the purge within 30 days.
  • Portability — Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Opt out — You can opt out of all data collection by deleting your account.

8.1 Additional Rights for EEA/UK Residents (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR. We process your data based on the following legal bases:

  • Consent — For health data, location data, environmental data, and cross-app data combination.
  • Contract — To provide the services you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interest — For security, fraud prevention, and product improvement.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

8.2 Additional Rights for California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act:

  • The right to know what categories of personal information we collect and how they are used.
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information.
  • The right to opt out of the "sharing" of personal information as defined under the CPRA.
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

We do not sell individual personal information. Our enterprise intelligence products are built from anonymized, aggregated cohort data that does not constitute personal information.

To exercise any of your rights, email us at privacy@tangerineintelligence.ai.

9. Children's Privacy

Our apps are intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will delete their account and all associated data promptly. If you believe someone under 18 is using our apps, please contact us at privacy@tangerineintelligence.ai.

10. International Data Transfers

Your data is stored and processed in the United States using Google Cloud infrastructure. If you are using our apps from outside the United States, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using our apps, you consent to this transfer. We rely on standard contractual clauses and other appropriate safeguards for transfers from the EEA/UK.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will notify you via in-app notification and email. The updated policy will include a new effective date at the top. Your continued use of our apps after the updated policy takes effect constitutes acceptance of the changes.
